Oklahoma Dance Center is proud to offer audition opportunities for dancers seeking high-quality training and performance experience through the Oklahoma Ballet Theatre (OBT).

​

Whether you are a young dancer looking to begin your pre-professional journey, a student seeking advanced training, or an experienced performer interested in company opportunities, we welcome dancers from throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding region.

Pre-Professional & Academy Audition Information

The Oklahoma Ballet Theatre Pre-Professional Program and Academy is designed for dedicated dancers ages 9–18 who are interested in pursuing advanced ballet training and exploring a future in the professional dance world. Admission is by audition or invitation only.

Students train in a structured, conservatory-style environment focused on technical excellence, artistry, performance experience, and dancer wellness.

​

Training includes approximately 20–25 hours per week of:

  • Classical Ballet Technique (Vaganova Method)

  • Pointe

  • Variations & Repertoire

  • Partnering

  • Contemporary Dance

  • Character Dance

  • Conditioning & Pilates

  • Improvisation & Performance Skills

 

Students also participate in seminars and coaching sessions covering topics such as audition preparation, resume building, dancer wellness, nutrition, injury prevention, and professional etiquette.

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday: 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

  • Additional Saturday morning classes and rehearsals as scheduled

 

Students enrolled in the daytime program must complete academics through homeschool, online study, or an approved flexible academic arrangement.

Ways to Audition for the Pre-Professional Program

  1. Video Audition ($40 fee)

    Submit a video audition for initial consideration. Accepted students may be invited to attend a tuition-free in-person evaluation stay (up to 3 days).

  2. In-Person Evaluation Stay ($50/day)

    Visit the program for up to three days, participate in classes, and receive a placement decision at the end of the stay.

  3. Summer Intensive Audition ($40 fee)

    Dancers auditioning for the Summer Intensive may also indicate interest in the Pre-Professional Program. Selected students may receive an invitation for a tuition-free in-person evaluation stay.

Female dancers:

solid-colored leotard and pink tights 

Male dancers:

fitted white shirt and solid-colored tights

 

Barre Work (one side only)

  • Plié

  • Tendu

  • Jete

  • Rond de Jambe

  • Fondu

  • Grand Battement

Center Work

  • Adagio

  • Pirouettes (en dehors & en dedans)

  • Petit Allegro

  • Grand Allegro

Pointe Work

  • Relevé

  • Échappé

  • Passé

  • Pirouettes

Men’s Exercises

  • Tour en l’air

  • Tours à la seconde

  • Entrechat

 

Performance Opportunities

Pre-Professional and Academy students have the opportunity to perform in:

  • End-of-year spring performances

  • Full-length classical ballets

  • Contemporary productions

  • OBT Nutcracker

  • Competitions such as Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), ABC/IBC, ADC, and Universal Ballet Competition

TRAINEE PROGRAM & OBT II

OBT Trainee Program

​

The OBT Trainee Program is designed for advanced dancers ages 17 and older who have completed pre-professional training and are preparing for a professional ballet career.

​

Trainees will receive:

  • Advanced daily ballet training

  • Company class participation

  • Rehearsal experience alongside company artists

  • Performance opportunities in Oklahoma Ballet Theatre productions

  • Professional mentorship

  • Audition and career preparation

  • Performance coaching and repertoire development

 

The program is intended to provide dancers with the experience, discipline, and artistic development necessary to transition successfully into professional ballet companies.

OBT II

​

OBT II will serve as the second company of Oklahoma Ballet Theatre, providing emerging artists with increased performance opportunities and professional experience.

​

Selected dancers may:

  • Perform featured roles in company productions

  • Participate in outreach and educational performances

  • Perform alongside Oklahoma Ballet Theatre artists

  • Develop professional rehearsal and performance skills

  • Receive coaching from artistic staff and guest faculty

 

OBT II is designed for dancers who demonstrate strong technical ability, artistic maturity, and a commitment to pursuing ballet at a professional level.
